DERMAL NEEDLING/ DERMAL PEN

Dermapen™ offers world-leading technology in skin rejuvenation and aesthetic innovations, providing results you can see and feel. The device uses vibrating microderm needles to rejuvenate the skin – visibly tightening and lifting - transferring topical nutrients as it does so. The needles create micro ‘injuries’ which harness the body's innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin, as the pen glides across the skin’s surface, stimulating natural collagen production. Dermapen™ is a solution for various skin conditions which include wrinkles, fine lines, acne scarring, scars and stretch marks. It can also stimulate wound healing, as well as tighten, lift and rejuvenate skin. Dermapen™ complements other treatment options already offered, such as chemical peels, IPL and micro-dermabrasion. This will greatly increase their effectiveness.

There are two types of Dermapen™ treatments. The first type calls for the use of an anaesthetic cream to numb the area, to allow for a deeper treatment. The second type involves using Dermapen™ at a shallower depth, eliminating the need to pre-treat the skin with an anaesthetic cream. Depending on your  skin and the type of treatment provided, the skin may appear red and irritated for a few days. Specially formulated creams can be used before and after a Dermapen™ treatment to minimize this effect. Visibly rejuvenated skin can generally be seen after just 6-8 days following a procedure, with results further improving over time. A course of Dermapen™ sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results; however, improvement is usually noticeable after just one treatment.

Is Dermapen™ safe?
Injections are not a part of a Dermapen™ treatment, so allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. The procedure is minimally invasive, which means that there is virtually no downtime and the healing process is quick. Aftercare is also very simple and can be fully administered at home. Side effects experienced with Dermapen™ will usually subside within 48 hours and may include erythema, stinging, itching and tightness of the skin.

What can be expected:
Day 1:
Some swelling and redness, severity of which will depend upon the aggressiveness of the performed treatment.

Day 2: A red or pink hue similar to moderate sunburn may persist. There may be some noticeable swelling on the second day.

Day 3: Skin may still retain a pink hue or return to normal colour. Swelling subsides.

MICRO-DERMABRASION

The very popular technique of micro-dermabrasion ‘skin polishing’ is a simple and effective way of improving the quality and health of skin. It works by combining skin exfoliation using either a high quality diamond head or crystals with suction. This ensures efficient exfoliation in a gentle, non-invasive manner while the applied suction clears away the dead cells and plugs, stimulates the blood supply, increasing the natural turnover of skin cells. This treatment improves blocked pores, skin blemishes and blackheads, reduces the appearance of pigmentation, refines pores and softens fine lines – all of which result in a clearer, more polished skin.

Tell me about the treatment?
Treatments usually take 20 to 30 minutes and primarily, your skin will feel clean and smooth. Your skin tone and texture can also improve significantly, especially after several treatments. If you currently have clear skin tone, then the results of micro-dermabrasion will be longer lasting. We recommend monthly treatments for optimum results. The micro-dermabrasion treatment is not painful; it may occasionally cause a slight stinging sensation during application. Micro-dermabrasion is not appropriate for all skins, and can be very dehydrating, so it is important to follow up treatment sessions with a good moisturiser, and Christine will recommend an effective home care plan.
